About the building

What is spellbinding about the Guildhall is the fact that it is one of the few remaining structures of pre-Great Fire of London. For centuries it was used as the headquarters for the City of London which during the Middle Ages had its historic and financial centre in this area. But its past dates back even further. This site was where the Roman amphitheatre was, the largest in Britannia seating up to 6,000 spectators.
