About the building

Amongst the new underground stations built for the Jubilee Line extension, Canary Wharf’s was by far the largest and the most awe-inspiring. The enormous excavated pit (24 m / 79 ft deep and 265 m / 869 ft long) was developed with a ‘cut and cover’ method – the traditional way of the 1800’s underground – and it’s so large One Canada Square Tower could fit in. It has become an icon and one of our favourite structures by Foster + Partners.
